The FAQ describes a female hunter option, more customization and multiple characters as plans. The roadmap also places character customization among features still coming after 1.0.
What you can conclude now
A planned feature is not a released menu. This page therefore does not give a character-creation walkthrough, a confirmed release date or a claim that the announced options are already selectable.
Before returning for a customization update, look for dated patch notes explicitly announcing the feature. Cosmetic customization is not currently expected to grant gameplay advantages according to the FAQ, but that statement does not establish future balance rules.
